Christmas is often a time for caring and sharing and this year, Amazing Amazon Initiative, a non-profit organisation in Nigeria focused on the empowerment of women is taking it to another level with the #feedajegunle project.

The project would take place on the 24th of December, 2016 as the Amazons would take raw food stuff to the suburb of Ajegunle to distribute to the women in the community to enable them have freshly cooked meals for their families on Xmas day.

The project coordinator Mrs Uduak Iluyemi said it would be an annual event, though in various locations. She added that the project is her organisation’s demonstration of love and care for women in Nigeria regardless of their class and social status.

“What better time can we demonstrate we are our sisters’ keeper than during Christmas and what better way than by giving to the needy,” she said.

In a brief chat with the founder of the Amazing Amazon Initiative, Mrs Mercy Makinde, she said: “the three basic human needs are food, clothing and shelter and the most critical for daily survival is food and it is also very essential this season, hence, the need to embark on this project”.

She encourages all Nigerians to join hands with her organisation to make this dream come true, and even feed more 500 families.

Mrs Makinde expressed her gratitude for the massive support the project has received from Nigerians. “People just see the information about the project online and immediately express the desire to donate and even volunteer. Even the support from our celebrities and public figures towards the project is overwhelming as many of them like Gbenga Adeyinka, Odion Ighalo, Judith Audu, Segun Arinze, Iyabo Ojo, Etinosa Idemudia, Joseph Benjamin, Ade Laoye, Mary Lazarus, Shawn Faqua, Nunnsi Ojong, Bucci Franklin and a host of many other celebrities are helping out with publicity and even donating to the cause.

Another major supporter of the project is MD/CEO of WFM 91.7 Mrs Toun Okewale Sonaiya who has been instrumental in getting funds for the project and WFM 91.7 has been the major media partner for the project.
